RCC Institute of Information Technology (RCCIIT) was set up in 1999 by the erstwhile Regional Computer Centre (RCC), Calcutta (in JU) as a unique joint venture of NIC, Ministry of Communication & IT, Govt. of India and Dept. of Higher Education, Govt. of West Bengal. In 2003 the lead role of management of RCCIIT was transferred to the State Govt. from Govt. of India.

Since then RCCIIT is the only engineering college in the State which is run by an autonomous Society (RCC Institute of Technology) formed by the State Govt. Known as one of the oldest engineering colleges in the State it now ranks within top 10 private and govt. engineering colleges. Besides 8 govt. engineering colleges established and funded by the State, RCCIIT is the only self-financing engineering college for which the Board of Management (BOM) as well as the Governing Body (BOG) are constituted directly by the State Govt. with senior officials of Higher Education Dept, Professors and Administrators of JU and WBJEEB and eminent academicians and industry persons. The State has made significant contribution in terms of land and fund for development of the institute since inception. Situated in a well connected location of mega-metro Kolkata, spread on a sprawling 4.63 acres of land leased to the college by the State Govt., it has best-in-class infrastructure and teaching-learning resources. State Govt. pay structure for the faculty (and staff) and ample scope for their research and self-development ensures their dedicated service for the students.

RCCIIT comprises two adjacent campuses housing 6 degree offering and 2 supporting departments catering to around 2000 students. Beautiful green and eco-friendly ambience and the culture of traditional academic practices, high ethical standard and strong teacher-student bonding create the perfect settings that help students nurture their creative endeavours while striving for excellence. There has been significant improvement every year in curricular, co-curricular, extra-curricular activities, even amidst the pandemic. RCCIIT, already known for its consistent placement record, is now experiencing the flavour of industry partnership and handholding in imparting cutting-edge skill and knowledge to the students even before they step into the final year. The institute is proud of a network of its Alumni spread across industry and academia across the country and abroad as torchbearers of the institute’s success and legacy.

Though the institute has not yet featured in NIRF ranking, it has a strong research base with considerable number of publications, patent and copyright of the faculty members. The research network is ever increasing with International Conferences on niche areas being organized every year where the faculty and scholars present their research work and get exposed to the latest developments and research problems shared by some of the internationally reputed researchers.

With a view to impart quality education in the allied non-engineering segment, the Society has established another institute namely, RCCIIT (Non-AICTE) in the surplus area of the same campus and launched three UG courses BCA, B.Sc (Computer Sc.) and B.Sc (Data Science) affiliated by MAKAUT from AY 2021-22. This will be the only institute to offer B.Sc (Computer Science) under MAKAUT. With requirement of skilled non-engineering graduates increasing steadily in the industry, it is expected that these courses will be much demanded given the inherent tradition of quality education and competitive placement record of RCCIIT.
